Women's Empowerment

Women play a key role in the family and society. Not only in Cambodia, but all over the world women are the ones raising the children, caring about the family and often generating the family’s income. The program volunteers will work at improving social and gender equality through advocacy and the promotion of information sharing and communication. Women's Empowerment for Social Change is designed to help women exercise their rights in a balanced way and can build competence to become self-sufficient, with improved women's participation in social, economic and political life.

Due to reduced availability of education and resources, at-risk women often rely on the support of local NGOs for assistance. Empowerment of women is seen as a key issue both on a federal and local scale. There continues to be a dramatically positive shift in support of women’s rights. Education is seen as the most powerful tool against injustices.

Volunteers' Responsibilities

Each program is different, so when it comes to different placement options we will make sure to provide you plenty of information. Volunteers must be comfortable working with as a team and independently. Volunteers looking to play a role in this exciting change can expect a variety of experiences. The type of work each volunteer does is directly related to their previous experience, skill set, availability and the needs of the placement organization. People with additional knowledge or those planning to stay more than two months are often given specific projects, arrange campaigns or implement new initiatives relating to education and public awareness. Volunteers with less experience and less time often assist with proofreading, emails, writing proposals and general office assistance.  English is often the most valuable skill that organizations urgently seek. Many organizations offer a chance to visit their field work as well. If you are working in the provinces you are more likely to visit the field every week.

  • The volunteer should have a certain background or be studying in a certain field.
  • Has at least an intermediate level of English.
  • Having obtained training in some areas or has some work experience in the related field is also helpful.
  • The volunteer should be able to adapt quickly to social and cultural change and interest in the country and culture.
  • The flexibility to participate in many different tasks depending on the ever-changing needs of the organization.
